The USA and Indonesia have signed a partnership on small modular reactors (SMRs) in an effort to strengthen their international energy cooperation. The pact is part of President Donald Trump's broader efforts to diversify the US sources of energy by increasing investment in nuclear power -- especially SMRs as it works to lessen its environmental impact.
SMR Initiative Announcement. The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the Indonesian Ministry of Industry have announced plans to establish a new research collaboration that will focus on advanced nuclear-reactor technology and industrial applications. While both countries have a long history of cooperation, this is the first time they have worked together in this field by establishing a comprehensive partnership to develop an improved reactor system that would improve energy security and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
